Our Founders

To know us, you have to know our story. Our founders, Erica and David, a unique pairing in the strongest sense, arrived at this destination from a shared passion for helping others feel their absolute best.

Erica started out in nursing but soon discovered that her true passion was in beauty. She was fortunate to work alongside an amazing mentor for many years before deciding it was time to open her own creative space, Lux Lounge. Her dedication to hair integrity was evident in this intimate boutique salon. While opening her own salon came with its challenges, her wealth of experience and skill made the journey both rewarding and successful.

David, on the other hand, had always been fascinated with fashion and beauty, though his path into the industry was very different. Feeling the pressure to follow expectations, he ventured into the fields of sports nutrition, athletic training, and the psychology of a performance-driven mindset.

The Early Days

Erica, after working in the industry for 13 years, opened Lux Lounge in her hometown of Stoneham in 2012. David had been a weekly client of Erica’s since 2000, two years after moving to the area. They shared a professional friendship, both respecting the other’s vast knowledge in their respective industries. One day, Erica mentioned to David that she needed to find someone to assist her with some of the inner workings of the salon to allow her to focus on delivering unparalleled services to her clients. David was recovering from some unforeseen medical difficulties and decided to offer his assistance, which in turn led them to this partnership. Erica invited David to a hair show in Dallas, and he was like a little kid, mesmerized by the ability of people to “transform” others. He returned home and immediately enrolled in cosmetology school. During the months leading up to his graduation, the current location of the salon became available. Erica and David decided to lease the location on Main Street, expanding from 700 sq feet to almost 3000.

This endeavor became NV The Salon. Their shared vision was that once you left the salon, your hair would be the “NV” of everyone. Their concept was to create an industrial chic and professional space that would become a destination for all things beauty, where the client felt like they were having their hair done in a beautiful living space. The salon immediately flourished, but they both felt that something was missing.

A New Chapter

Fast forward to 2022, while David was attending an Intercoiffure Regional Retreat where iconic beauty industry minds came together to share ideas, David presented the desire to “rebrand” the salon, which was met with concern. However, one voice stated, if you are going to do it, do it now; don’t wait until you are too well-known to do it. David returned home, presented the idea to Erica, and her words of wisdom were simply: “NO WAY, unless the name is the greatest name ever, WE are not rebranding.”

David, known for never giving up, went to the drawing board and created name after name, logo after logo, all being completely ignored by Erica and the team until one word, not commonly used, was mentioned in a movie. THE MAVEN - someone who is dazzlingly skilled in any field (which was also what David’s favorite artist, Da Vinci, was called) changed the way he was approaching the rebrand. If we are the Mavens, the experts, the skilled artisans, then our beloved clients are our muse.

That was it, The Maven and The Muse. We are your Mavens (experts), and ALL OF YOU are our MUSE (inspiration), and we are ARTISTS.....inspired.
