Meet David
David Colonna’s path into beauty wasn’t linear — but it was inevitable.
Raised in Alabama, he moved to Massachusetts in 1998. As a kid, David was deep into science — attending space camp every year and competing in science fairs, all with dreams of NASA. After college, he served 8 years in the U.S. Navy, an experience that shaped his mindset, work ethic, and mission to elevate others wherever he goes.
His journey into the beauty industry didn’t start with a haircut — it started with a stage. He saw stylists commanding the spotlight like rockstars and thought, “I need to be up there.” That moment lit a fire that never went out — and now, you’ll often find him on stage himself, sharing techniques, ideas, and inspiration.
David is all about transformation. The big kind. The bold kind. The kind that makes people feel seen again. Whether it’s a precision cut, a full reset, or a major reinvention, he brings a thoughtful, collaborative approach to every client and every service.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Intercoiffure America & Canada, where he also chairs the Resource Committee. He’s the founder of Beauty X ai, exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and beauty, and The Salon Playbook, his personal mission to modernize how salon pros learn, lead, and grow.
David previously served as the Chief Strategy Officer, Creative Director, and Lead Educator for Calligraphy Cut in North America. While he is no longer affiliated with the company, he remains a certified Gold Level Calligraphy Cut Artist, and it continues to be his favorite tool in the salon.

Outside the salon, David’s life is always in motion: – Entertaining his wildly energetic German Shorthaired Pointer, Ezekiel – Deep diving into biohacking, brain optimization, and emerging AI tools – And playing golf… poorly. If David was as good at golf as he is at hair, he wouldn’t be a high handicapper — but here we are.
He’s also on his own transformation journey — having lost 186 pounds over the last three years, driven by the same mindset he brings to every guest: change is possible, and it’s never too late to rewrite your story.
